The Stihl MS 180 is a 31.8cc 2-stroke chainsaw and Stihl's best-selling homeowner model worldwide. It handles 14" to 16" bars and excels at regular firewood cutting, light felling, and property maintenance. The MS 180 runs a Zama C1Q-S57B carburetor distinct from the MS 170's, though it shares the primer bulb, recoil starter, and ignition coil with the MS 170. The most common failure on high-hour units is diaphragm hardening in the Zama carb, producing lean running and hard starting — a carburetor kit or complete Zama replacement is the standard repair. The MS 180 superseded the Stihl 018.
