The Stihl MS 170 is a 30.1cc  2-stroke chainsaw and the entry point to Stihl's consumer chainsaw range, designed for light homeowner tasks — limbing, storm cleanup, and occasional small firewood. It accepts 12" to 14" guide bars. The MS 170 runs a Zama C1Q-S169 carburetor and is mechanically related to the MS 180, sharing the primer bulb, ignition coil, and recoil starter. Routine maintenance items are the air filter, fuel lines, and primer bulb. Ethanol-blend fuels cause accelerated diaphragm wear; draining fuel before storage prevents the most common no-start condition.
