Echo SRM-225 Won't Start: Spark, Fuel, Carb, and Primer Checklist
Updated 2026-05-20
A practical no-start checklist for the Echo SRM-225 trimmer, with links to spark plug, fuel filter, primer bulb, and carburetor fitment references.
Start With the Easy Checks
Confirm fresh fuel, the stop switch position, choke setting, and that the air filter is not soaked or packed with debris.
If the trimmer ran last season but will not start now, stale fuel and restricted fuel pickup are more likely than an ignition failure.
Spark and Plug Gap
Remove the plug, check for fuel fouling, and compare the replacement number and gap against the model fitment table before ordering.
A correct plug number can still cause problems if the gap is wrong or the plug boot is not seated firmly.
Fuel System Path
A primer bulb that will not fill usually points to a cracked bulb, blocked in-tank filter, swapped fuel lines, or an air leak.
When replacing lines, match routing and diameter instead of relying only on a generic kit description.
Carburetor Version
The SRM-225 family commonly references Zama carburetors, but carb versions can vary. Match the carb number stamped on the removed unit when possible.
Use a complete carb kit only after confirming it includes the right gaskets, primer connections, and fuel line fittings.
